Why "Kopernikus"?

Nikolaus Kopernikus stands for an important paradigm shift, from which a new Weltbild emerges. The mathematician and astronomer had discovered in the 16th century that the Earth is turning around the sun, not vice versa. His name is therefore the epitome of scientific and social change. In this spirit, the Kopernikus projects are to create breakthroughs in the understanding, interpretation and development of the energy system as well as in solving complex questions. The projects are characterized by a special approach to their topics: On the one hand, the basic conditions change quickly. They meet this dynamic with long-term project structures, which also allow flexible control. On the other hand, theKopernikus projects are designed systematically, since they link economic, social, political and technological research questions from the very beginning. In this way, their results can be particularly lasting and long-lasting.
